Month in Review: March

If March could be summed up into just a few words, it would be: community, connections and celebration. From getting involved with local initiatives and activities to achieving our goals and cheering each other on, this month was definitely another one for the books!

Harmony Week

Harmony Week is an annual Australian celebration, all about diversity and inclusivity, and making sure people of all cultures, origins and backgrounds feel welcome in our community. Every day from 16th to 20th, GO got in the spirit by completing daily kindness challenges, aimed at getting us out of our comfort zones, in spaces to meet new people and to spread joy and positivity wherever we go. The week was an absolute success, with kindness awards being earnt left right and center. Thank you to everyone that got involved, and to the GO community as a whole for promoting kindness and inclusivity every day, whether it's Harmony Week or not!

Tastes of the Goulburn

Have you spotted our posters and flyers around town? As part of the annual Tastes of the Goulburn festival, GO Art will once again be opening our doors for a POP UP ART SHOW! If you've ever wanted to take a peek inside our studio, meet our artists, or take home an artwork of your very own, this is the time! Saturday, 11th April, 10am - 4pm. 16-18 Station Street.

New Faces and Farewells

This month, Goulburn Options will say goodbye to Bridget Shields (Accommodation and Living Practice Leader) and Kate Ellis (Support Coordinator) as they pursue exciting new chapters in their lives. On behalf of the whole team, we'd like to thank you both for your tremendous work.

In March, Goulburn Options also proudly welcomed Tanya Begley to the team as Programs and Community Team Leader. In her first two weeks, she has hit the ground running, and we couldn't be more excited to have her expertise and energy on board!

Local Activities

Our participants have been taking every opportunity to get involved this month, beginning with the GO Green group. This program is all about taking care of our environment, including learning about our world, making creative recycled DIYs, growing plants and getting out into the natural world. To celebrate the program and all the fantastic work they've been doing lately, the ladies took the train to Wandong for lunch at Magpie and Stump. Great food and great company -- what more could you want?

Every year the Rotary Club Labour Day Show and Shine brings together so many members of our community for a great day out at King's Park. This year, there was a huge number of cars on display as well as several other attractions like a petting zoo, swap meet and live band! Our Accommodation and Living participants spent the day mingling with other locals, enjoying the sun and taking in the sights.

And finally, just by coincidence, the GO Literacy Group (currently studying their Ability Me! Program at The Centre for Continuing Education in Seymour) ran into DSWs and Participants from the Menzies Centre whilst on an excursion at Goulburn Park! A chance meeting soon filled with laughter and new friends, we had an awesome day down by the river for sure!

Home DIY

Early in the month, housemates Chris and Stephen came together to DIY some vibrant artwork for their SIL home. Supported by DSWs Di, Daniel and Michelle, the work will bring some extra colour (and a whole lot of character) into the men's shared dining area. Great work team!
